Flower Pressing Workshop

A Pressing Event!

Instructor: Jocelyn Swanson

Saturday, May 3rd
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Join Jocelyn Swanson on Saturday, May 3rd from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM for a Flower Pressing Workshop at Arts on Main!

As the centerpiece of this art exploration, flowers offer a full pallet of colors and a wide array of textures and shapes – unlimited resources for creativity! In this workshop, we will discover ways of using pressed and dried flowers in several projects, including jewelry, mixed media abstracts, monograms, and features on bookmarks, notecards, and magnets. But first – we’ll explore ways to dry and press them for longevity, shortening the usual time of traditional flower pressing. Develop a deeper appreciation for nature through artistic expression while learning mindful creation and alternative ways of using botanicals in art. We will create at least three works of art using flowers.

This class is open to all levels of artistic experience. All supplies will be provided by the instructor. Flowers – fresh and dried – will be provided.

For ages 12+

$40.00
Only 15 available

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

“Art is a spirit and an on-going practice that has led to both my passion and purpose. My passion has been to cultivate the art of nature, celebrating theintricate, ever-changing dialogue between the natural world and human creativity. Nature, with all its complexities and subtleties, offers an endless well of inspiration to me as artist. Through working directly with natural elements, I have found my purpose as an educator. I invite my students to join me in developing a deeper relationship with the environment – to cultivate a greater sense of awe and responsibility toward the world that sustains us. In so doing, we unleash our potential to demonstrate its beauty and power in our creative expression of it.My first career, with a degree in business communications, was in corporate marketing, followed by twenty years as a freelance writer and consultant. My second career took me into education and back for a master’s degree and Montessori teacher certification. I have since founded and directed two Montessori secondary schools, become an education consultant and teacher trainer. I now co-direct art and nature education programs for children and adults, in both public and private settings, on and off of our small regenerative Virginia farm.”
