Drawing, Wood-Burning, & Painting on Gourds

Join Ethan Brown at Arts on Main on Thursday, January 9th from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM for a Native Gourd Workshop!

Ethan will talk about his gourd art journey and demonstrate his crafting process which involves wood burning a line drawing into the gourd shell before applying paints, stains, etc. Gourds and supplies will be provided for you to craft along!

ABOUT ETHAN BROWN

Ethan Brown is a tribal citizen of the Pamunkey Indian Reservation. He is a filmmaker and visual artist working in multiple mediums including gourd art. Ethan has completed commissions of gourd art for such entities as the Valentine Museum, the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, among others. His gourd art is often inspired by Virginia’s flora and fauna, as well as Pamunkey history and culture. The gourd crafting process involves wood burning a line drawing into the gourd’s hard shell, before applying various paints and stains.
