Stories Told When People Could Fly
An African American Story Telling Experience
Led By Dr. Katrina White Brown
Thursday, December 14
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Flying meant freedom
For enslaved Africans in America during the 18th and 19th centuries, freedom from physical bondage was difficult and often impossible, but the mind and the spirit could not be enslaved. Stories told when people could fly meant that the enslaved could fly away to freedom, and experience life without restraints. They could be the
Smartest,
Wisest,
Cleverest,
Bravest,
They could be the hero in their own lives, even if it was only in the stories they created in their imagination.
The Event is Free;
The Experience is Priceless
No registration required, just show up!
ABOUT OUR STORY TELLER
Dr. Brown has been doing story telling and historic character presentations for over 20 years throughout the United States and the Caribbean. She believes that “we must look beyond what’s written in the books to really understand history. Story telling helps us do that. Our stories are important because they connect us: through culture, history, ideas, and values. Stories inspire us and help us celebrate who we are, what we’ve done, and how we can be better.”
